Richard Loyson

Richard is a highly accomplished Chartered Accountant (SA) and taxation specialist with an impressive academic and professional track record. He completed his Honours degree in Accounting at the University of Port Elizabeth in 2006, followed by a Master’s degree in Taxation in 2009. In 2010, he qualified as a Chartered Accountant (SA), solidifying his place in the profession.

Richard began his career in 2007 when he commenced his articles at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). During this time, he joined the taxation department, where he spent two years developing specialist tax expertise. His strong technical grounding and passion for the field led him to academia in March 2010, when he joined Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan University as a Senior Lecturer in the School of Accounting. Over the next five years, Richard lectured at honours and master’s level, specialising in Accounting and Taxation—an experience he deeply valued.

With almost 20 years of experience across auditing, accounting, and taxation, Richard has cultivated a broad and insightful understanding of client needs in both local and international contexts. He has a strong passion for tax and is dedicated to delivering thoroughly researched, high‑quality advice. His master’s thesis, “A critical analysis of the income tax implications of persons ceasing to be a resident in South Africa”, reflects his interest and expertise in complex tax matters, particularly cross‑border taxation.

Richard’s excellence has been widely recognised. In 2018, he was honoured as one of the Top 35 Under 35 CAs in South Africa, a prestigious accolade celebrating exceptional young professionals. A year later, in 2019, he received the Honours Tie from the Port Elizabeth Chartered Accountant Student Society in recognition of his contributions and leadership in the field.

Committed to staying abreast of continuous developments in taxation, Richard prioritises technical accuracy and current knowledge to ensure clients receive the best possible solutions. He continues to provide commentary on proposed legislation to National Treasury to ensure that the proposed amendments are aligned with the objectives of the legislation.  His expertise has supported major transactions, including advisory work on deals exceeding R5 billion.

Driven, knowledgeable, and passionate about delivering outstanding tax guidance, Richard Loyson remains a trusted advisor to a diverse range of clients navigating the complexities of both local and international tax.
